Videos
This section includes a small number of excerpts from the many hours of video taken during my field research in Europe in 2004. Most of these videos attempt to capture and present a first hand view of what it is like to drive various unconventional New Mobility Vehicles (NMV's). Of course much of this material is a type of auto-ethnography but I have in some instances asked the owners to wear a helmet camera and talk to me about their experiences while they drove; in this way attempting to capture a little of their experience as it occurred.
Carver 300 on the Autobahn at 150kph
The owner of this Carver 300m takes me for a spin on the Dutch Autobahn. He cranks it up to 150 kph and then 'leans' the car into the next lane. This is part of a part of a Bluearth phenomenological research project designed to understand the experiences of drivers of these vehicles
Carver 300 showing how it leans
The owner of this Carver 300 takes me for a spin in Dordrecht to demonstrate how the car 'leans' into corners like a motorcycle. He is wearing a helmet cam and telling me about how it works and how he uses it in his everyday life
Driving in Florence
I taped this with a helmet mounted camera. The video depicts what it is like to drive a motor scooter through different parts of central Florence. This is part of a part of a Bluearth phenomenology research project designed to understand this kind of experience. Check out when I take off at he lights on the wrong side of the road. What an idiot
Walking Florence streets
I was walking the streets of Florence just randomly videotaping whatever I saw and heard. I did this to study the context of scooter riding in Europe as part of a Bluearth phenomenology research project. Notice the clarity of human sounds and the mad electric car at the end
Driving a Twike in Switzerland
Ralph Schnyder is the designer and driver of the 'Twike' three wheeled electric car - he takes us through the Swiss countryside near his home
Florence roundabout
This is what it is like to ride a scooter in Florence Italy - I taped this with a helmet mounted camera - look at how the traffic blends and flows without any agro
Nervous in Florence
This is what it is like to ride a scooter through the back streets of Florence Italy - part of a bluearth phenomenology research project
